Just another thread in the "AG gifts series!"
Without giving away all of the plot, Addy gave a great sacrifice in a donation to charity. Are there any special things you like to do for the less fortunate around the holidays?

My debate team is "adopting" a needy child in our community. We buy them presents for Christmas.

For two years I was a Toys for Tots county coordinator. Since we moved into a bigger area, the program here is already set and they didn't need anyone. DD and I still go out and pick a new toy (or a couple LOL) for a little girl her age and DD puts them in the donation barrel.

Our church is going to have Thanksgiving dinner for around 4,000 homeless and people on low income on Thursday. I am going to help with the prep of the meal tomorrow and then help server on Thursday. We seat our guest and then runners (us) get in line for the plates of food and drinks to get there meal. The church has clothing drives to also give away winter clothing and blankets.

All of these sound so sweet!
I like to do Operation Christmas Child, where you fill a box and ship it to an organization called Samaritan's Purse.
Our church gets gifts for kids who ask for specific things, and we always have an impossible time finding what they want (this year we had to drive for hours, and go out-of-town!). By the end of the search, we are always VERY tired, cranky, and upset, and we always say: "If we hadn't purchased this for him/her, someone else would have purchased it, anyway."
So next year we're going to concentrate on doing Operation Christmas Child boxes instead. It is so much fun, and you know it's going to a child who may have no other toys in his/her entire lifetime, except for what you send. That's a big responsibility, but it's also so nice to know.

My Girl Scout Troop gives a full Thanksgiving Dinner to a needy family every year. Each girl in the troop is assigned certain Thanksgiving food items to contribute; with all the donations combined we end up with a full Thanksgiving Dinner for our family.
I just dropped off the "goodies" to our family this morning. The family consisted of a senior citizen, her daughter and 4-year old grandson.
It is always such a great feeling to give to those less fortunate than we are. A lot of times the things we take for granted, are a treasure to others!

Every year we pick out a family "Santa" letter from the PO. This year we have a family of five. A single mom with four kids under age 11. She only asked for coats, hats, and gloves which is normally what they ask for, but we always add extras.
